From this article you will learn: how and when to apply Pimafutsin from thrush. What kind of medication is this? Can it be used not only by women, but also by men? The mechanism of action of Pimafucin. Forms of release: tablets, candles, cream.

The author of the article: Alina Yachnaya, an oncologist surgeon, higher medical education with a degree in General Medicine.

Pimafucin is a drug with antifungal activity from the group of antimicrobial agents - macrolides. This is the trade name of the active ingredient Natamycin. Pimafucin is produced by an Italian pharmaceutical company, with which the relatively high price of the drug is associated.

This remedy is highly effective against yeasts of the genus Candida, which cause various forms of candidiasis, including damage to the genitals or thrush. Therefore, the drug is often prescribed for the treatment of candidiasis. It may also be prescribed for the treatment of a fungal infection of another type (not candida), but with a lower therapeutic effect.

The advantages of Pimafucin in the treatment of candidal inflammation over other drugs from the group of antifungal agents:

  • there is no development of the resistance of the fungus to the drug during therapy,
  • causes complete death of the pathogen,
  • shows a high result in terms of full recovery,
  • low toxicity of the drug (total effect on the body systems),
  • the minimum number of side effects and the rarity of their development,
  • can be used in pregnant and lactating women, small children under 12 years old,
  • does not penetrate the general bloodstream when applied topically,
  • is in all dosage forms, except solution (tablets, cream, suppositories),
  • can be used in women and men
  • a small number of contraindications.

The relative high cost (from 230 to 800 rubles, depending on the form of release and dosage) is the only negative quality of the drug, which does not allow its use more widely.

Prescribe the treatment of thrush and candidal infections of another type of Pimafucin should only doctor. You can address the problem to the gynecologist, urologist, dermatovenerologist or otorhinolaryngologist, if there is a lesion of the oral cavity.

Indications for use

Pimafucin is used to treat inflammatory processes caused by yeast or yeast-like fungi. Most often used in the treatment of candidiasis with lesions:

  • organs of the urogenital system in women and men (labia, vagina, urethra, glans and foreskin),
  • skin, its folds and skin derivatives (hair follicles, nails and the periungual bed),
  • ENT organs (tongue, lips, gums, pharynx, larynx, tonsils, nasal sinuses, ears),
  • digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine).

Candles for thrush Pimafucin, as well as pills and cream, are very effective in cases of:

Acute, for the first time revealed form of pathology of any of the above localizations.

Disease caused by taking antibacterial, hormonal and chemotherapeutic drugs.

Before and after surgical interventions on the genitals, intestines, esophagus, stomach for the purpose of preparation, prevention and treatment of candidal infections.

When therapy is necessary to carry out in the period of carrying a child or in the process of breastfeeding.

If there is a malfunction of the liver and kidneys against the background of their chronic illness with a decrease in organ function (in blood samples there is a high level of bilirubin and creatinine).

The need for treatment of children under the age of 12 years, including newborns and premature babies.

Pimafucin is the main medication in the treatment of fungal inflammation of the intestines, as the only drug to which there is no resistance of yeast flora (unlike Nystatin) and no general systemic manifestations (like Fluconazole and Itraconazole).

When Pimafucin can not be used

The peculiarity of Pimafucin is the almost complete absence of contraindications for use. The drug can not be used if there is an individual allergic reaction, high sensitivity or intolerance:

  • Natamycin - for all forms of medication,
  • starch, lactose, povidone, sucrose, bee products, talc, kaolin - for the tableted version of Pimafucin,
  • polysorbate, adipic acid, sodium bicarbonate, cetyl alcohol - for vaginal suppositories.

Mechanism of medicinal action

The active ingredient Pimafucin blocks sterols - the main active elements of the fungal wall. This leads to a violation of their function of the exchange of nutrients with the external environment. The integrity of the cells of the pathogen is broken, and microorganisms die quickly.

When Natamycin is applied to the skin and mucous membranes, the drug penetrates well into the inner layers, affecting all parts of the fungal colony, but is not absorbed into the blood vessels. Therefore, the drug does not affect the liver and kidneys.

When taking Pimafucin tablet form, its active ingredient is 85–90% removed from the intestine with feces - the absorption into the systemic circulation is minimal.

There is no data on the resistance of the fungal infection to the drug in clinical use. The drug always gives a high result in the treatment of candidiasis. It can be used for the recurrence of the disease an unlimited number of times, making a break for 2-3 weeks.

  • acute pseudomembranous and acute atrophic candidiasis in patients with cahesia, immune deficiency, as well as after antibiotic therapy, corticosteroids, cytostatics,
  • sanitation of the intestinal reservoir of fungi of the genus Candida with candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes.

In the treatment of thrush (vulvovaginal candidiasis) in women, Pimafucin ® tablets are used to eliminate the source of infection in the intestine, in combination with suppositories and cream ** Pimafucin ®.

    • Cream (can be used in conjunction with candles). Depending on the clinical picture, they are applied from one to four times a day for 10-14 days.

Treatment tactics consists of two stages: clarification of the main cause of the disease, risk factors for its development - the first, second - the appointment of Pimafucin is possible only in complex therapy. In this case, the use of systemic antifungal drugs, for example, Pimafucin tablets, is added to the treatment regimen. Typical dosage: 1 tablet 4 times a day for 10-18 days, together with the administration of suppositories or the use of a cream (see above). In rare cases, a systemic drug is replaced by another group of drugs (for example, tablets pimafucin tablets are replaced with a tablet form of Fluconazole).

During therapy chronic thrush schemes and duration of treatment, combinations of drugs are determined solely by the doctor.

    Analogues of Pimafucin

    Analogues of Pimafucin: Primafungin.

Thrush is an unpleasant phenomenon and if it comes into your life it should be neutralized as soon as possible. I was appointed by him during pregnancy in the form of candles. The effect was already noticeable in the early stages of application, there was a clear relief of the symptoms of thrush. Candles can be stored up to +25, but it is better in the fridge to make it convenient to remove from the packaging and they have not lost their shape. But first you need to get advice and appointment of a gynecologist.

I like pimafucin cream, after it for the first time I decided to try metrogil gel plus vaginal and other liquid forms. I do not regret. They are much easier to heal than candles.

The composition and principle of action of Pimafucin

The main active ingredient of the drug is Natamycin. This drug is based on an antibiotic related to macrolides of the polyene series. It has a wide range of antifungal effects. The substance kills the cells of pathogenic microorganisms, which is why bacteria and fungi can no longer grow and multiply.

Excipients: potato starch, gelatin, magnesium stearate, lactose, calcium carbonate, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, acacia, talc, kaolin, cellulose acetate phthalate, white beeswax, triacetin, titanium oxide, sucrose. Components are kept in low concentration and, under the conditions of treatment, do not harm the body. However, if you have an intolerance of at least one of the listed elements, Pimafucin reception should be coordinated with the doctor.

    Instructions for use

The method of application depends on the dosage form, the patient's age and disease. The dosage may vary and is adjusted depending on the parameters described above:

    • Pimafucin suppositories during pregnancy and during periods when the woman does not bear the fruit are taken intravaginally. Before opening the package and getting a suppository, wash your hands with soap and, if necessary, treat with antibacterial wipes. Lie on your back and gently insert the candle deep into the vagina. This should be done 1 time per day, before bedtime. The course of treatment is from 3 to 6 days,
    • If treatment with vaginal suppositories does not give results, it is recommended to combine therapy with suppositories with the use of enteric tablets. The feasibility of therapy is discussed with your doctor. Treatment regimen - 1 tablet 4 times a day with meals. The therapeutic course is 10 to 20 days,
    • cream is recommended to use in case of thrush for both partners. Candles from thrush Pimafutsin intended for women, cream - for men. It is enough to use the medicine in the form of a cream 1 time a day before going to bed, the frequency of use increases if necessary, the duration of treatment is individual, depending on the degree of damage.

After the main symptoms of the disease disappear, therapy is recommended to continue for several more days. In this case, Pimafucin for thrush in women and men will help to completely cope with the disease and prevent re-infection.

    How much is Pimafucin

The cost of Pimafucin depends on the form of release, the city and the pharmacy in which this tool is implemented.

The average price depending on the form of release is as follows:

    • vaginal suppositories - 288 rubles,

    Clotrimazole

This drug is similar to Pimafucin on the principle of action. The main active ingredient is clotrimazole. This component, which destroys the cell membrane of fungi and thereby eliminates candidiasis. Available in 4 dosage forms: tablets, vaginal suppositories, creams and ointments. It is taken exclusively externally.

Prescribed by doctors for diseases caused by yeast-like fungi following Candida or Trichomonas vaginalis. Effective with candidiasis and other fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes. Contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy and in case of hypersensitivity to the main components.

    May interact with other medications:

    • reduces the effect of antibiotics from the polyene group (Natamycin, Pimafucin, Nystatin, Amphotericin),
    • when using para-hydroxybenzoic acid propyl ester, the effect of Clotrimazole increases, when combined with dexamethasone, it decreases,
    • when combined with clotrimazole Nystatin, the effect of the latter becomes mild.

Vaginal suppositories and cream to take 1 time per day for 6 days. If a person is sexually active, both partners must take a therapeutic course.

Cost of Clotrimazole - from 30 rubles.

Antifungal drug based on natamycin - polyene antibiotic, has a powerful fungistatic effect. Violates the integrity of the cell membrane of microorganisms, thereby gradually destroying them and leads to recovery of the patient.

Issued in the form of vaginal suppositories, therefore it is prescribed only for the treatment of women. The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components, use during pregnancy and lactation is allowed, but the dose may be adjusted depending on the individual characteristics of the organism and the severity of the disease.

Take 1 vaginal suppository per day for 3-6 days. After the symptoms become less pronounced, it is recommended to continue therapy for up to 3 days. Side effects are possible in the form of mild irritation and burning sensation at the site of application. According to numerous reviews of the drug, such actions take place on their own within 1-2 days after the start of a therapeutic course.

The cost of Ecofucin - from 164 rubles.

    Ketoconazole

Known drug of the older generation of drugs. This medicine has a powerful antifungal effect and comes in the form of classic tablets, vaginal suppositories and cream. Ketoconazole effectively fights candidiasis of the genital organs and is equally effective in dealing with lesions of the mucous membranes and skin in men and women. The tool is not recommended to take in case of hypersensitivity, pregnancy and breastfeeding, severe liver disorders.

With caution, the medication is prescribed in violation of the functions of the pituitary gland and the adrenal cortex, severe hepatic and renal failure, the age of two years and the simultaneous use of funds that have a negative effect on the liver. Possible side effects:

    • malfunctions of the nervous system, which are manifested by headache, numbness and tingling in the limbs, dizziness and drowsiness,
    • negative disorders of the gastrointestinal tract: loss of appetite up to its loss, loose stools, jaundice and hepatitis (if you use the medicine for more than 2 weeks, the risk of death increases,)
    • on the part of the genitourinary system: decreased libido and impotence, menstrual disorders.

Individual reactions are possible: pruritus, urticaria and other rashes, photophobia, sudden hair loss, itching in the vagina, etc. Before use, it is recommended to consult a doctor about the appropriateness of treatment. The doctor must also determine the optimal scheme for you and the course of treatment.

Ketoconazole can be purchased at pharmacies from 161 rubles.

    Release form

The main active ingredient of Pimafucin is natamycin - a broad-spectrum antibiotic, which is not absorbed into the blood, and therefore is safe to use. Release the drug in three forms: candles, pills and cream.

Tablets and candles contain 100 mg of the active substance in each. Cream-colored torpedo candles come in 3 or 6 pieces per pack, pills in 20 pieces. in a glass jar with a screw lid, cream - in an aluminum tube of 30 g

    Application Schemes

Treatment of thrush Pimafucin is effective for both acute and chronic course of the disease. To get rid of the mild form of candidiasis, 3 candles will suffice, one per day, which must be administered before bedtime, after hygienic procedures. It is not recommended to use candles during menstruation, because it will reduce the effect of the drug at times.

In the chronic course of the disease, the duration of treatment with candles is extended to 6-12 days and the use of tablets is added (1 pc. 4 times a day, a period of 10-20 days). If the course of therapy prescribed by the doctor is not over, but the symptoms of thrush, such as itching and cheesy discharge, have disappeared, do not stop taking the drug. After all, the main task in the fight against chronic disease is not to remove the symptoms, but to eliminate the cause. In this case - in the destruction of the colonies of candida fungi, which cause recurrence of candidiasis.

Due to the strong anti-fungicidal properties, Pimafucin can eliminate the cause of candidiasis, besides, this drug restores the natural environment and can be prescribed after a course of antibiotics.

Pimafucin thrush pills are most often prescribed for the chronic course of the disease together with suppositories. This treatment regimen is also suitable for the combination of intestinal and vaginal candidiasis, when one form replaces another, and a vicious circle occurs. The combined use of vaginal suppositories and tablets is most effective in this case.

Each package contains 20 enteric-coated tablets placed in a glass jar and cardboard box along with instructions for use.

The course of treatment lasts 10-20 days, during which you need to drink 4 tablets per day - this is 2-4 packs, the average cost is 300-650 rubles.

Candles from thrush Pimafutsin are very effective with a mild degree of candidiasis, when 3 pieces are enough per course, one per day. If this does not help to overcome the symptoms, then the course of treatment is extended to 6 days.

In the case of a chronic course of the disease, this period is extended to 12 days with the addition of tablets. The cost of vaginal candles ranges from 150 to 600 rubles.

Pimafucin cream is most often used in the treatment and prevention of men or girls under the age of 16, after which the use of vaginal suppositories is permitted. Another cream is used for candidiasis in pregnant women and for the chronic course of the disease as part of complex therapy.

The cost of the cream is from 200 to 400 rubles per tube of 30 g.

When thrush returns, Pimafucin ® comes to the rescue.

The most common class of drugs for the treatment of thrush (fungal infections) are azoles (for example, fluconazole, itraconazole for oral administration, and clotrimazole and butakonazole, etc., for local treatment).

These drugs provide an adequate therapeutic effect, provided that the pathogenic fungi are highly sensitive to them, and at the same time they only prevent the reproduction of the fungus. In addition, the fungus is able to form resistance to this class of drugs 1,2, after which the use of drugs of the class of azoles does not produce any effect. 7

In such cases, the solution will be Pimafucin ®, the active antifungal component of which not only prevents the growth of the fungus, but also kills the fungus..

It interacts with the surface of the fungal cell in such a way that, as a result, the fungus has practically no remaining mechanisms for the formation of resistance 3,4,5. It is important that the antifungal component is practically not absorbed into the blood, and therefore, when used, it is usually there are no systemic side effects * .

Pimafucin ® is a reasonable alternative in the treatment of thrush, given the increased resistance of fungi to azoles. At the same time, Pimafucin ® is highly active against all types of pathogens of thrush. 6
